Saginaw -
Chesaning
made life
miserable
for Swan
Valley on
Friday
night.
The Indians
came into
the game
with a
height
disadvantage
down low but
used their
quickness to
make the
ultimate
difference
by clogging
the lanes
and fighting
for loose
balls.
The two
battled to a
dead heat in
the first
quarter,
with
Chesaning
going up 4
at the
break.
The third
quarter
belonged to
the Indians
as they
extended
their lead
to 10
points.
Brooke
Jastrzembowski
hit a basket
with just
under 1
second
remaining in
the quarter
to grab the
double digit
lead and all
of the
momentum.
The Lady
Vikings did
not go away
however as
they used
the three
ball to get
back into
the game.
Madison
Wakeman and
Aubrey Maxa
both hit
triples to
lead the
comeback
that got as
close as 6
points but
failed to
draw any
nearer.
Wakeman had
12 points on
4 three
balls, while
Maxa added
10 points.
Jastrzembowski
led all
scorers with
13 points
while her
teammate
Megan Newton
added 8
points.
Chesaning
hosts 2-0
Hemlock next
Friday while
the Vikings
stay home to
take on 0-2
Ovid-Elsie.
Midland -
Dow used
a 17-5 third
quarter to
break open a
game that
was tied
16-16 at the
half.
The Lady
Chargers led
by as many
as 16 in the
4th quarter
before a
late surge
by Mt.
Pleasant
slimmed the
margin.
With the
lead cut to
40-34 with
just 36
seconds
remaining,
Leah Kebler
and Mallory
Groszek hit
two pairs of
free throws
to put the
game away.
Kebler led
Dow with 15,
while
Freshman
Rebecca
Mills
dominated
inside with
12 points
and 9 boards
and had
several
buckets off
of put
backs.
Mt.
Pleasant's
Samantha
Armstrong
put together
a gutsy
performance
to lead all
scorers with
18.
